Amazing dancehall tune from 90s duo, Born Jamericans. Just loving the overall vibe and melody in Boom Shak A Tak. I think I first came across the Born Jamericans in Hawaii. They were playing the duo’s other hit, Send My Love, wasn’t too too crazy about that song, I thought it was a little too lovey dovey for me. But after hearing Boom Shak A Tak I thought this band had a unique reggae style and is band definitely worth sharing.
Side Note: After the Born Jamericans slip Notch, one of the members, went on to pursue a solo career. Notch released a reggaeton album a few years ago called, Raised By The People. Having own the cd, I’d say it’s a pretty good reggaeton album, there is a good mixture of genres.

“How you feel so lonely girl? You don’t know how it feels, you don’t know what it’s like to live blue days and toss and turn at night. So how you push me out to sleep at night. “Deixa, deixa, deixa, eu dizer o que penso dessa vida, preciso demais desabafar. Eu já falei que tenho algo a dizer, e disse. Que falador passa mal e você me disse. Que cada um vai colher o que plantou. Porque raiz sem alma como o flip falou, é triste…”
Marcelo D2 is by far one of my favourite artist to come out of Brazil. I first came across Marcelo D2 about 5 years when I picked up Timeless (a Sergio Mendes album), where Marcelo D2 featured in a song called Samba da Benção. After hearing that song I instantly became a fan. So, if you love hip hop and have a thing samba infused beats then Marcelo D2 is definitely worth checking out.
Desabafo is a bit different from the older Marcelo D2 tunes, in my opinion it’s more hard hitting and has a bit more hip hop flavor, but I still love it the same. You can find Desabafo off his album A Arte Do Barulho or off the Fast Five soundtrack.
If you would like to hear some of Marcelo D2’s older stuff, I highly recommend listening to his live album, Acústico MTV. In this album you can really hear the amazing fusion between Brazilian hip hop and samba music.
Band: Marcelo D2
Album: A Arte Do Barulho
Song Style: Hip Hop / Samba / Alternative
Country: Brazil
+ If you’re loving Marcelo D2, you should check out À Procura da Batida Perfeita off of his album, À Procura da Batida Perfeita.
